Lorient to Groix ferry: November sailings around the Port-Tudy slipway works

From 2 to 13 November 2026, repairs to the slipways at Port-Tudy cut the weekday service to four sailings in each direction. Weekends run as normal, and five boats a day each way return from Monday 16 November.

Roll-on car ferry: foot passengers and vehiclesDeparts: Lorient ferry terminalPort-Tudy, Île de Groix50 min

Fifty minutes is the time the Brittany Region's timetable allows between leaving the Lorient ferry terminal and tying up at Port-Tudy on the Île de Groix, while the operator's help pages quote 45 minutes at sea. Through November 2026 the first boat leaves the island at 06:50 from Monday to Saturday, and the last one leaves Lorient at 18:45, or at 19:30 on Sundays.

BreizhGo Océane runs the line with roll-on ferries that take cars as well as foot passengers; its help pages name the Ile de Groix and the Breizh Nevez I for this route. The times change from week to week, so the tables here run from 2 to 22 November only, using the Region's open data and the notice the Groix town council published about the harbour works.

During those works, from 2 to 13 November, the 12:30 from Groix moves to 13:30 and the late-morning boat from Lorient leaves at 12:15, while the 13:45 from Lorient and the 15:00 from Groix are dropped. Wednesday 11 November, a French public holiday, keeps the weekday works timetable.

What a return ticket costs outside high season

Passenger fares on this line are quoted as returns, with harbour dues included, so there is no separate single price to compare. From October to March every day counts as standard season: €37.80 for an adult aged 26 or over, against €41.00 in high season. Travellers aged 18 to 25 pay €27.80 and children aged 4 to 17 pay €22.60.

Under-4s travel free but still need a ticket. A very small dog or a cat carried in a suitable bag or basket goes free; any other pet costs €6.80. Each passenger may bring one compact bag of up to 30 kg.

A car is priced on its size and travel date, and the vehicle fare covers neither the people in it nor bicycles or anything carried on a roof rack, rear carrier or bike rack. The operator also sells season tickets, an island residents' pass (Pass Insulaire), a reduced BreizhGo Solidaire fare and a fare for carers of island residents.

Return passenger fares valid until 3 January 2027, read on the BreizhGo Océane website on 27 October 2026. The site could not be opened again on 29 October 2026, so the amounts were not rechecked that day.   BreizhGo Océane – passenger return fares · 2026-10-27

Where you board, and where you land on Groix

Lorient – ferry terminal (gare maritime)

Gare maritime de Lorient · Lorient

The Groix ferry leaves from the gare maritime, the ferry terminal in Lorient. Foot passengers are asked to arrive 30 minutes before departure and drivers 45 minutes before. Nobody is boarded in the last 5 minutes, and if a vehicle ticket is marked 'car-deck', vehicle boarding closes 30 minutes before the sailing.

Groix – Port-Tudy

Port-Tudy, Guyot slipway · Groix

On the island, the boats berth at Port-Tudy, using the Guyot slipway, which is kept for the Compagnie Océane ferries. That slipway and the neighbouring 'adossée' slipway are being repaired from 2 to 13 November 2026 by the contractors COLAS and TETIS on behalf of the Groix town council. Divers will be working there, and the ferries keep a listening watch on VHF channel 9 around the diving barge.

Lorient ferry terminal to Port-Tudy, non-stop

The map marks the two stops listed in the Brittany Region's timetable data: the gare maritime in Lorient and Port-Tudy, the harbour on the Île de Groix. Every LGX sailing runs straight between them with no call in between. None of the sources checked states the distance.

Tips for visitors heading over to Groix

  • The right quay in Lorient

Go to the gare maritime. The summer boats listed by the island council leave from other spots, the submarine base, Port-Louis or the fishing port, and none of them runs a timetable in November.

  • Bringing a hire car

The boats are roll-on ferries, so a car can come, but only the driver stays with it during boarding; everyone else walks through the passenger lounge. The car deck is closed for the whole crossing, although a pet may stay in the car.

  • Bikes

A bicycle is not covered by the vehicle fare, and neither is one carried on a car's bike rack, so ask for the bike price when you buy your tickets.

  • Luggage

One compact bag of up to 30 kg per person is included. Bulky items are charged as freight; luggage containers are available, and the operator suggests the sailings of its roll-on ferries Ile de Groix and Breizh Nevez I if you have a lot to carry.

  • Works at Port-Tudy

From 2 to 13 November 2026 weekday sailings drop to four each way. The operator sends the revised times by email and text message and puts them on notices and social media.

  • Who to call

    BreizhGo Océane customer service: +33 2 97 31 34 45. For questions about the harbour works, Groix town hall: +33 2 97 86 80 15.

The summer boats are laid up

The Groix town council's travel page lists other ways across: Escal'Ouest from the submarine base in Lorient or from Port-Louis, the sailing catamaran Bag Hatoup from the Lorient fishing port, and Laïta Croisières from Lomener. Escal'Ouest and Bag Hatoup sail only from April to the end of September and Laïta Croisières only in season; outside those months Escal'Ouest takes groups on request. Of the services on that list, the ferry from the gare maritime is the only one with a published November timetable.

Within the regional BreizhGo network the line is coded LGX, and the Brittany Region publishes its timetable as open data, listed on transport.data.gouv.fr for 10 October to 31 December 2026. The operator also publishes a 2026 timetable in PDF on its own website. On the Channel coast, the Chausey boat out of Granville runs to tide-dependent times.

From Monday to Friday between 2 and 13 November 2026, four each way: 08:05, 12:15, 16:15 and 18:45 from Lorient, and 06:50, 09:30, 13:30 and 17:30 from Groix.

Is there a one-way fare?

The passenger fares are published as returns. An adult aged 26 or over pays €37.80 in standard season, according to the fare table read on 27 October 2026.

Why do the tables stop on 22 November?

Are the summer boats to Groix running in November?

No. According to the island council, Escal'Ouest and Bag Hatoup sail from April to the end of September, and Laïta Croisières only in season.
